PROGRESS Study Expands Clinical Partnership to Advance Prediction of Radiotherapy Response in Rectal Cancer

Oncosyne is pleased to welcome Haukeland University Hospital as a new clinical partner in the PROGRESS study, joining Akershus University Hospital in investigating whether patient-derived tumoroids can predict radiotherapy response in rectal cancer.

The PROGRESS study aims to evaluate whether functional testing of patient-derived tumoroids can help predict how individual patients will respond to radiotherapy before treatment begins. Radiotherapy is an important part of treatment for many patients with rectal cancer, but response varies considerably between individuals. Better prediction could help reduce unnecessary treatment and support more precise treatment decisions.

The addition of Haukeland University Hospital expands the clinical network supporting the study and will contribute to a broader collection of clinically annotated patient-derived rectal cancer models. The team recently visited Oncosyne’s laboratory to align on patient sample logistics, study workflows, and the capabilities of Oncosyne’s patient-derived tumoroid platform.

Expanding the clinical partnership is an important step in increasing the number and diversity of patient samples available for the study and strengthening the evaluation of the platform’s predictive performance.

Through PROGRESS, Oncosyne and its clinical partners are working towards a better understanding of individual radiotherapy response and the potential for functional patient-derived models to support more personalised treatment decisions for patients with rectal cancer.
